Safari Animals

In a freak accident that Kenya Safari operators described as "disturbing", an estimated 10,000 wildebeest have drowned trying to cross the Mara river Kenya during the annual meeting of the Great – the wildebeest migration. The deaths occurred over several days last week, is said to represent approximately one percent of the total population of the species.

The drownings created a grotesque pile of animals, after part of the flock of the Mara Ford tried "a particularly dangerous crossing, according to Edwin worker Senior Tour Guide African safaris and adventures that have witnessed the incident. The first animals in the river could not cross and drowned, while others continued to kick in water behind them. "Once they jumped into the river, were unable to mount any filler on the field and, therefore, were charged by the current and drowned about 2,000 wildebeest drowned in the crossing in a single afternoon. "There was no unusual flooding the time, and there seems to conditions beyond these deaths, "said Edwin." The wildebeest just chose a crossing point that was too steep. "

Drowning deaths are common during the wildebeest migration, Edwin added but his organization has never witnessed fatalities on this scale. "It is customary each year for the wildebeest choose one particularly treacherous crossing point and for there to be an important channel of foot, he said, "but the number of deaths during these crossings that exceed never close to a thousand. "More than a million wildebeest make an epic migration every year in late summer, leaving their calving grounds on the plains of Serengeti in Tanzania to seek greener pastures in the Masai Mara in Kenya in the north.

The animals also known as GNU, traveling a total of approximately 2,000 miles (3,200 kilometers) of each year, often joined by thousands of zebras and Thomson's gazelles. These deaths occurred in Masai Mara of Kenya National Reserve, as the flock begins to turn east on its way back to the Serengeti National Park. Since the drowning animal bodies were washed downstream, stranded on the shores Mara muddy and was trapped underneath a nearby bridge. The remains formed what he described as "pungent islands of bloated corpses." The crocodiles, storks and vultures do not have to worry about where to find their next meal, "he said

"Those are not consumed and ultimately be decompose in water. These thousands of carcasses are no health effects from water, but to what extent, only time will tell. "

The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is considered to be the largest of African wildlife reserve. The Masai Mara game reserve is ranked 4th (best FORTH) tourist destination in the world and, more recently, the name of the seventh (7th) ABC.It wonder of the world is in the southwestern part of Kenya. The Masai Mara and the Serengeti plains covers 10,000 square miles plains, forests and riparian forests. Masai Mara is generally known as "La Mara," which in the Maasai word picture of unequal resources. Spelling of "Masai" and "Maasai" are acceptable, the latter refers to the population. The Masai Mara referred to both as a game reserve and a reserve national.

It is also treated as a national park. Because Masai Mara is managed by local authorities and the Kenya Wildlife Service. Reserves provide the camps, lodging, safari tent camps and settlement of people from local tribes and their cattle, while national parks are managed centrally and do not allow human houses outside the park rangers and safari parks. The two co-existing management in the Mara.

The Mara is an impressive natural wonder, a place where Maasai warriors share the plains with hunting lions, a place of mighty herds and timeless cycles of life, death and regeneration. It spreads on the plains of the Serengeti National Reserve in Tanzania. The Loita Hills and Nguruman Escarpment, both considered sacred by the Masai, forests offer opportunities for hiking secondary for the adventurous traveler.
